PRIVACY POLICY: EmuCoreR

1. Information Collection and Use

1.1 Personal Information (Authentication)

Cloud features of EmuCoreR are optional. To use them (such as the player profile, play statistics, achievements, friends, leaderboards and cloud emulator settings) you may create an account or sign in using Firebase Authentication, including Google Sign-In.

When you create or sign in to an account, we may collect:

• Email address
• Name
• Profile picture (if available)
• Firebase User ID

This information is used solely to identify your account, provide cloud synchronization and manage your account across devices.

1.2 Local Data and Files

EmuCoreR is an emulator. It requires access to your device’s storage to load game disc images, BIOS files, memory cards and save states.

• Access: We only access folders and files explicitly selected by you through the system file picker.
• Privacy: All disc images, BIOS files and user-generated saves remain on your device unless you explicitly enable a cloud feature. We do not scan your device for unrelated files or personal data.
• Backups: Settings backups and Google Drive backups are created only when you start them yourself.

1.3 Cloud Storage

If you use cloud features, data such as your player profile, play time, game list, achievements, friends, leaderboard entries, device list and cloud emulator settings may be securely stored using Firebase services (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore). This data is associated with your account and used only to provide those features.

If you connect Google Drive, EmuCoreR stores its own backup files in your Google Drive using the limited drive.file scope. The App can only see and manage files it created itself; it cannot read the rest of your Drive.

1.4 Usage Data and Analytics

We use third-party services to monitor and improve the App:

• Google Analytics for Firebase – collects anonymous usage statistics to help improve the App.
• Google Play In-App Review – lets you rate the App without leaving it; the review flow is handled by Google Play.

The App does not use third-party crash-reporting services. Technical crash logs are written locally on your device and are only shared if you choose to send feedback.

1.5 Advertising Data

EmuCoreR contains no advertising and no ad SDKs. We do not collect or use advertising identifiers (AAID/IDFA).

1.6 Game Metadata and Cover Art

EmuCoreR displays game metadata and cover art from EmuCore catalog services and community cover packs. Cover art is fetched from a public community repository (github.com/xlenore/psx-covers) using the game’s disc serial. EmuCoreR stores the catalog locally on your device; no personal information is shared for this purpose.

1.7 Device Information in Your Profile

If you sign in, an optional device entry may be added to your profile (device name, chipset, GPU family, memory and app/core version). It uses a random app-generated identifier, never a hardware ID, and you choose whether it is visible to other players.

1.8 Optional Integrations

• RetroAchievements: if you connect your RetroAchievements account, your username, token and achievement progress are stored locally on your device and sent only to RetroAchievements (retroachievements.org) to provide that feature.
• Discord Rich Presence: if enabled, your current game title may be shared with Discord through your local Discord client. A Discord token, if any, is stored on your device.
• Feedback: if you send feedback, your message, optional attachments and technical details (app version, core version, Android version and device model) are uploaded to our feedback service.
• Online multiplayer: if you use multiplayer, connection data required for the session is relayed through our signaling service; room codes and peer data are temporary.
• Hub and updates: the Hub and update screens load news and release information from EmuCore services.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use collected information to:

• Provide and maintain the App and its optional cloud features.
• Authenticate your account.
• Synchronize your profile, statistics and settings across devices.
• Provide achievements, leaderboards and social features.
• Optimize emulator performance and improve compatibility.
• Analyze App usage in anonymous form.
• Provide customer support.
• Detect, prevent and resolve technical issues.
• Notify you about important updates.

3. Data Retention and Deletion

3.1 Retention

We retain your Personal Data only for as long as necessary to provide the services described in this Privacy Policy or to comply with legal obligations.

3.2 Account Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of your EmuCoreR account and all associated cloud data at any time.

After verifying your request, we will permanently delete your account and associated cloud data within 30 days, unless we are required by law to retain certain information.

Deleting your account does not remove disc images, BIOS files, save files, memory cards or other local data stored on your device, and it does not delete backups already stored in your own Google Drive.

4. Service Providers

We use trusted third-party service providers to operate and improve the App. These providers may process data only as necessary to perform services on our behalf.

Services used include:

• Google Play Services
• Google Play Billing (PRO purchases)
• Firebase Authentication
• Cloud Firestore
• Google Analytics for Firebase
• Google Drive API (optional user backups)
• GitHub-hosted community cover art
• RetroAchievements and Discord (only if you enable those integrations)

5. Security

The security of your data is important to us.

We use secure cloud infrastructure provided by Firebase and Google Cloud to protect your information. However, no method of electronic storage or Internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not intended for children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we become aware that such information has been collected, we will promptly delete it.

Content Notice
EmuCoreR is an emulator designed to run software provided by the user.
We do not distribute games, BIOS files or copyrighted content.
Users are responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to use any disc images or BIOS files loaded into the App.

7. External Links and Third-Party Content

The App may contain links to third-party websites or display content obtained from third-party services, such as community cover art, RetroAchievements or Discord.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external services.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Any changes will become effective immediately after the updated version is published within the App or on our website. We encourage users to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
